LIZA KAVANAGH
Liza is a contemporary visual artist living and working close to the famous Curragh Plains in Co. Kildare. Liza began her studies at Grennan Mill Craft School before completing her Bachelor Degree in Fine Art at the Limerick School of Art and Design in 1994.
‘Working primarily in mixed media, acrylics and collage my practice spans contemporary landscape and still life painting, drawing inspiration from the ever changing light and terrain of the Irish landscape alongside the quiet poetry of the everyday — simple forms, floral motifs, and the intricate decorative language of pattern. I love layering materials, texture, and mark making and enjoy creating work that is both intimate and visually rich, underpinned by a keen sensitivity to surface and a deep curiosity about the stories that place, objects and overlooked details carry within them.’
Liza’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, most notably when she was selected to represent Ireland at ‘Horsemania’ a curated public art event held in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, the heartland of American horse culture and a fitting stage for an artist so rooted in the distinctive landscape of Ireland's own thoroughbred county.
Alongside her studio practice, Liza is an experienced and passionate arts educator and arts lecturer with a strong record of collaborative and socially engaged work with schools and youth organisations across the region. She brings creativity, curiosity, and genuine warmth to every project she undertakes, believing firmly in the transformative power of the arts to inspire, connect, and give voice to communities of all ages and backgrounds.
